The story behind my photograph of the Golden-bellied Euphonia, Caracolí Bird House, Villavicencio, Meta, Colombia.

The place

Caracolí Bird House, Villavicencio, Meta, Colombia. I photographed this Golden-bellied Euphonia here on September 15, 2025, at about 7:22 a.m.

The shot

Golden-yellow first, then the olive. That was the order this Golden-bellied Euphonia (Euphonia chrysopasta) presented itself at Caracolí Bird House, perched on a thin stem among pale seed heads while the darker cap and pale bill held the profile together. I used the Canon EOS R5 with the RF800mm F11 IS STM and Extender RF1.4x, at 1120 mm, 1/125 s, f/16, ISO 1600, −1/2 EV.

The bird

The Golden-bellied Euphonia (Euphonia chrysopasta) belongs to the family Fringillidae (Finches, Euphonias, and Allies) in the eBird/Clements taxonomy.
