Brown-throated Parakeet

The Story

This Brown-throated Parakeet (Eupsittula pertinax) settled among fresh green leaves at Caracolí Bird House, a rural birding lodge in the vereda Zuria outside Villavicencio, in Meta, Colombia, its brown face and throat showing against the green. The species eats seeds, fruits, nuts, flowers and leaves, and sometimes insects. In Colombia it usually nests between February and April. In Colombia it reaches 2,600 meters, though elsewhere it is found mostly below 1,200 meters.

I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender for this one, at 1/125 sec, f/16, ISO 1600, −0.5 EV. Caracolí Bird House is a public eBird hotspot, so the birds seen there go into a shared record that anyone can use.
