The Story
I photographed this Crimson-backed Tanager (Ramphocelus dimidiatus) at Entreaguas Reserva Natural, near Coello in Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia, the deep crimson of a male in clear view. It lives along humid forest edges, in shrublands and around farms and gardens, and seldom in the interior of humid forest. In Colombia it ranges from sea level to about 2,200 meters. It feeds on insects, fruit and seeds, mostly in the undergrowth and middle levels of forest edges. IUCN lists it as Least Concern. Its most common call is a nasal chank.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11, at 1/350 sec, f/11, ISO 3200. Entreaguas, in the Coello–Cocora area of Ibagué, offers ecological walks and birdwatching tours.
