The Story
I photographed this White-vented Plumeleteer (Chalybura buffonii) at Entreaguas Reserva Natural, near Coello in Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia, at about 1,187 meters. It is found in Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru, from sea level to about 2,000 meters. Its nest is a cup of plant down bound with spiderweb, with moss and lichen on the outside. Nests have been found on branches as high as 2.5 meters above the ground. IUCN lists it as Least Concern. The male has a bluish green throat and belly and a blue breast.
I photographed it with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11, at 1/250 sec, f/11, ISO 3200, +1 EV. Entreaguas, in the Coello–Cocora area of Ibagué, offers ecological walks and birdwatching tours.
