This Roadside Hawk (Rupornis magnirostris) perched against green foliage in the Mocagua Indigenous community, a Ticuna resguardo beside Amacayacu National Natural Park in Amazonas, Colombia. A vocal hawk, it is often the most common raptor in its range and is now the only species in the genus Rupornis. It eats mainly insects, lizards and snakes, and small mammals, including young marmosets and similar small monkeys. Its bulky stick nest is lined with leaves and placed near the top of a tree. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I photographed it with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender, at 1/180 sec, f/16, ISO 3200. In Mocagua, the Fundación Maikuchiga rehabilitates monkeys rescued from illegal wildlife trafficking.
