Female Spectacled Parrotlet

The Story

I photographed this female Spectacled Parrotlet (Forpus conspicillatus) at Finca Ecoturística San Javier, in the vereda Chucuní near Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia. The male’s brighter color and his calls help attract a female. Pairs nest in tree cavities or similar spots, and the species typically breeds between January and March. It lives in Colombia, Venezuela, Panama and Ecuador, below about 1,600 meters. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 for this one, at 1/125 sec, f/11, ISO 1600, +0.5 EV. Finca San Javier began as a pig farm in 1997 and turned to ecotourism in 2017, and today it offers guided birding and aims to help conserve the tropical dry forest around it.
