White-chinned Jacamar

La historia

I photographed this White-chinned Jacamar (Galbula tombacea) at Playa Rica Turismo Comunitario, by the Putumayo River near Puerto Asís, Putumayo, Colombia. It is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The male’s crown is ash brown and the rest of the upperparts a dark, metallic bronzy green, while the female’s belly is paler and more ochre. It ranges up to about 1,200 meters and is often found along watercourses at lower elevations. Only Hymenoptera, the order that includes bees and wasps, have been recorded in its diet. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 for this one, at 1/350 sec, f/11, ISO 3200, +1 EV. Playa Rica’s community tourism promotes agrobiodiversity and nature tourism for biocultural conservation.
