La historia
I photographed this Orange-backed Troupial (Icterus croconotus) at Playa Rica Turismo Comunitario, by the Putumayo River near Puerto Asís, Putumayo, Colombia. It lives in tropical South America east of the Andes, from southern Colombia, eastern Ecuador and Peru through much of Brazil to Bolivia and Paraguay, and it does not migrate. Its song is a series of loud, musical phrases, mostly of two syllables. IUCN lists it as Least Concern. In Colombia it breeds in July and August.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 2x extender, at 1/90 sec, f/22, ISO 1600, +2 EV. Playa Rica’s community tourism is run by ASOPAAP, an association of artisanal fishers and farmers, and it offers guided Amazonian birding.
