Black-bellied Whistling-Duck

La historia

I made this photo of a Black-bellied Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis) at Posada Turística Kenisha in Prado, Tolima, Colombia. At the heart of its range it tends to travel in flocks in the winter months. It usually nests in hollow trees, and in South America often in palm trees. Pairs often stay together for many years. Both parents share every task in raising the young, from incubation to rearing the ducklings. Prado’s main attraction is the Darío Echandía reservoir, an artificial lake fed by the Cunday and Negro rivers.

I used a Pentax K-1 with the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 for this one, at 1/250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 1600. IUCN lists the Black-bellied Whistling-Duck as Least Concern, with an increasing population.
