Brown-throated Parakeet

The Story

I photographed this Brown-throated Parakeet (Eupsittula pertinax) in Taganga, near Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia, at about 65 meters. It lives in Costa Rica, Panama, northern South America and the islands off its coast, and in Colombia it reaches 2,600 meters. It eats seeds, fruits, nuts, flowers, leaves and sometimes insects. A study in Venezuela found that up to 70 percent of its food there came from planted rather than wild sources. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender, at 1/1500 sec, f/16, ISO 1600, −0.5 EV. Taganga is a traditional fishing village about 3 kilometers north of Santa Marta, and both were founded by Rodrigo de Bastidas in 1525.
