The Story
I made this photo of a Torrent Tyrannulet (Serpophaga cinerea) at San José de las Hermosas in Chaparral, Tolima, Colombia. It forages actively, alone or in pairs, mostly by short flights from boulders in the stream. Only the female incubates the two buffy white eggs. Both parents brood and feed the nestlings. It lives along rocky, fast-flowing mountain streams. Between flights it wags and flicks its tail. It is considered common in Colombia. San José de las Hermosas is one of the rural villages of Chaparral, which lies about 163 km from Ibagué. Chaparral is mainly a farming municipality, and coffee is its main crop.
I used a Pentax K-1 with the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 for this one, at 1/2000 sec, f/5.6, ISO 3200. IUCN lists the Torrent Tyrannulet as Least Concern, with a decreasing population.
