Streaked Saltator

The Story

I photographed this Streaked Saltator (Saltator striatipectus) at Entreaguas Reserva Natural in Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia. In northeastern Colombia and Venezuela it lives in dry to moist woodland, forest edges, scrub, brushy pastures and gardens. It usually forages in pairs, sometimes in small groups, at all levels of its habitat. Its nest is an open cup with a coarse outer layer, a middle layer of dried grass and a lining of fine fibers. The reserve lies in the Coello-Cocora area west of Ibagué, on the way toward Cajamarca, and its trails pass a series of waterfalls.

I made this frame with a Pentax K-1 and the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6, at 1/640 sec, f/5.6, ISO 400, −1 EV. IUCN lists the Streaked Saltator as Least Concern, with a stable population.
