The Story
I photographed this Spectacled Parrotlet (Forpus conspicillatus) at Finca Ecoturística San Javier, in the vereda Chucuní near Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia, at about 700 meters. It perched on a branch, its green plumage standing out against the green backdrop. It is a small green parrot of open country that is not found above about 1,600 meters. It prefers open habitat to dense forest, so clearing has left its numbers stable and possibly rising, and its range includes many protected areas. It feeds on seeds, nuts, leaves, berries, cactus and other fruits. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11, at 1/250 sec, f/11, ISO 1600, −1 EV. Finca San Javier began as a pig farm in 1997 and turned to ecotourism in 2017, offering guided birding and aiming to help conserve tropical dry forest.
