Slate-throated Redstart

The Story

I photographed this Slate-throated Redstart (Myioborus miniatus) in the Cincinati area above Minca, in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia, at about 1,480 meters. The birds of northern Colombia belong to the subspecies sanctaemartae. It is a long-tailed warbler about 12 centimeters long, with a dark back and bright yellow underparts. Its call is a sharp pik, and pairs nest in a bulky roofed structure with a side entrance, usually set into a bank or steep slope. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 for this one, at 1/125 sec, f/11, ISO 3200, +0.5 EV. These mountains rise from the Caribbean coast to 5,700 meters, apart from the Andes, and they are the source of 36 rivers.
