The Story
This Rufous-tailed Hummingbird (Amazilia tzacatl) perched on a twig near San Pablo de Borbur, in Boyacá, Colombia, with the rufous tail that gives it its name fanned out below a green body. It ranges from east-central Mexico through Central America to Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, uses young, brushy second-growth forest, and feeds on nectar and small insects. In Colombia it is found up to about 1,800 meters. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender, at 1/180 sec, f/16, ISO 1600. The Fura and Tena hills near town are promoted for hiking and birdwatching, with a local association running ecological tourism built around their ancestral legend.
