The Story
I photographed this Orange-winged Amazon (Amazona amazonica) at El Escondite Reserva Natural, a private reserve near Villagarzón, Putumayo, Colombia. It lives in forest and semi-open country from Colombia and Trinidad south to Peru, Bolivia and central Brazil. The orange feathers in its wings and tail show mainly in flight. Although it is common, it is persecuted as a crop pest and trapped for the pet trade. It eats fruit, seeds, nuts, blossoms and berries, including palm fruit, and the sexes look identical. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11, at 1/180 sec, f/11, ISO 3200, −0.5 EV. El Escondite protects 124 hectares of forest, and more than 410 bird species have been recorded there.
