Immature Green Honeycreeper

The Story

I photographed this immature Green Honeycreeper (Chlorophanes spiza) at the Kairi Lodge Natural Reserve, near Manizales, Caldas, Colombia, in February 2020. It ranges from southern Mexico to Brazil and Trinidad. It is mainly a canopy bird but comes lower at forest edges. It eats mostly fruit, with some nectar and arthropods. The female builds a shallow cup nest of dead leaves and rootlets and incubates alone. Destino Caldas lists it among the birds of the neighboring Ecoparque Alcázares. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I made this frame with a Pentax K-1 and the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6, at 1/320 sec, f/5.6, ISO 3200. Kairi is recognized as a biological corridor for birds between the Ecoparque Alcázares and the Reserva El Arenillo.
