The Story
I photographed this Grass-green Tanager (Chlorornis riefferii) near El Tambo del Obispo, outside Buesaco in Nariño, Colombia. It lives in subtropical and temperate forest in the Andes from Colombia to Bolivia, at about 1,500 to 3,350 meters. Its nest is made of moss and ferns. It is seen in pairs or groups of three to six, foraging mostly in the upper half of short trees for fruit and insects. It is known to perch almost horizontally. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11, at 1/45 sec, f/11, ISO 3200. Buesaco was among the Nariño municipalities that backed the 2026 Global Big Day, when birders in the department recorded 566 species.
