The Story
I photographed this female Spectacled Parrotlet (Forpus conspicillatus) at Finca Ecoturística San Javier, in the vereda Chucuní near Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia. These parrotlets nest in tree cavities or similar structures and typically breed between January and March. In the wild they eat seeds, nuts, leaves, berries and fruit. They are not found above about 1,600 meters. IUCN lists it as Least Concern. The species prefers open country to dense forest.
I photographed her with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11, at 1/1000 sec, f/11, ISO 800, −0.5 EV. Finca San Javier began as a pig farm in 1997 and turned to ecotourism in 2017, and today it offers guided birding and aims to help conserve the tropical dry forest around it.
