La historia
I photographed this Wattled Jacana (Jacana jacana) at the Hacienda El Triunfo Private Nature Reserve, near Honda, Tolima, Colombia, in octubre de 2019. Yellow bony spurs on the bend of its wings help it defend itself and its young. Young birds can always be told by the white in their plumage. It has a red, coot-like frontal shield and wattle, and in flight it shows greenish yellow flight feathers. Its long toes and claws let it walk across floating vegetation. IUCN lists it as Least Concern, with a stable population.
I made this frame with a Pentax K-1 and the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6, at 1/800 sec, f/5.6, ISO 800. At El Triunfo, visitors can ride through the dry forest on Creole horses with local guides.
