Social Flycatcher

La historia

This is a Social Flycatcher (Myiozetetes similis) that I photographed at PANACA in Quimbaya, Quindío, Colombia on June 15, 2017. It is a tyrant flycatcher found from Mexico through Central America and most of mainland South America. The sexes look alike, though females average slightly smaller. It has a wide white stripe over the eye, olive-green upperparts, a white throat and bright yellow underparts. The 47-hectare park has interactive exhibits and more than 200 species of animals.

I photographed it with a Canon EOS 70D and the EF400mm f/5.6L USM, at 1/1250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 1600. IUCN lists the Social Flycatcher as Least Concern with a stable population, and every December 7 and 8 since 1982, Quimbaya’s neighborhoods have competed to light the town in the Candles and Lanterns Festival.
