La historia
This Pale-bellied Hermit (Phaethornis anthophilus) was in flight above the understory near Capurganá, in Chocó, Colombia, its slender body and long tail feathers set against blurred green. It is found in Colombia, Panama and Venezuela, from sea level to about 1,500 meters. In males the bill is almost straight, while females have a curved bill, and like many hermits it hangs its cone-shaped nest from the underside of a drooping leaf.
I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender for this one, at 1/1500 sec, f/16, ISO 3200, −1 EV. Capurganá can be reached only by boat or small plane, and it has no cars, which keeps the village and its forest edges quiet for birds like this one.
