Oriole Blackbird

La historia

I photographed this Oriole Blackbird (Gymnomystax mexicanus) at Beraca Charco Indio, near San José del Guaviare, Guaviare, Colombia, in febrero de 2021. Its name mexicanus goes back to 1760, when Mathurin Jacques Brisson described a specimen he wrongly believed had come from New Spain. It actually lives in northern South America, in moist lowland forest and shrubland, seasonally flooded grassland and swamps. Males and females look alike, bright yellow with a black back, wings and tail. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender, at 1/750 sec, f/16, ISO 6400. Beraca Charco Indio is a 140-hectare agritourism farm in the Serranía de La Lindosa, about 6 kilometers from San José del Guaviare, with a private river pool called the Charco Indio.
