La historia
This is a Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata) that I photographed at the Malecón Cameguadua in Chinchiná, Caldas, Colombia on June 23, 2017. It is native to the Americas, from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and Mexico south to Argentina and Uruguay. The species has been domesticated, and feral birds live in many parts of the world. It is a large duck, mostly black with large white wing patches, and males are about twice the weight of females. The reservoir sits at about 1,370 meters and has two lakes, with the tourist boardwalk, the malecón, on the northern one.
I photographed it with a Canon EOS 70D and the EF400mm f/5.6L USM, at 1/1000 sec, f/6.3, ISO 320. IUCN lists the Muscovy Duck as Least Concern with a decreasing population, and Chinchiná is part of the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.
