Lineated Woodpecker

La historia

I photographed this Lineated Woodpecker (Dryocopus lineatus) at the Hacienda El Triunfo Private Nature Reserve, near Honda, Tolima, Colombia, in octubre de 2019. It chips out large holes while searching for insects, especially ants, beetle larvae and termites. Its call is a loud, ringing wic-wic-wic, and both sexes drum. Males have a red forehead and a red stripe from the bill, which are black on females. It lives along forest borders and in other open woodland. It is a very large woodpecker that lives from southern Mexico to northern Argentina and Trinidad.

I made this frame with a Pentax K-1 and the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6, at 1/1600 sec, f/5.6, ISO 3200. For now, IUCN lists the Lineated Woodpecker as Least Concern, and its numbers appear to be growing.
