La historia
I photographed this female Barred Antshrike (Thamnophilus doliatus) at Finca Ecoturística San Javier, in the vereda Chucuní near Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia. In Colombia the species lives from sea level to about 1,500 meters, in thick undergrowth rather than the forest interior. It is a year-round resident and eats a wide variety of insects and other arthropods. Pairs forage close together in dense foliage, usually from the ground to about 3 meters up. IUCN lists it as Least Concern. Adult females have a cinnamon-rufous crest and upperparts.
I used a Canon R5 with the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L for this one, at 1/2000 sec, f/6.7, ISO 6400. Finca San Javier offers guided birding as part of its work to help conserve the tropical dry forest of the Chucuní area.
