La historia
I photographed this Black-bellied Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis) at Posada Turística Kenisha in Prado, Tolima, Colombia. It usually nests in hollow trees, and in South America often in palm trees. Pairs often stay together for many years. Both parents share every task in raising the young, from incubation to rearing the ducklings. At the heart of its range it tends to travel in flocks in the winter months. Prado’s main attraction is the Darío Echandía reservoir, an artificial lake fed by the Cunday and Negro rivers. Prado sits at about 321 meters on the right bank of the Magdalena, crossed by its tributary the Prado River.
I made this frame with a Pentax K-1 and the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6, at 1/250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 200. IUCN lists the Black-bellied Whistling-Duck as Least Concern, with an increasing population.
