Epaulet Oriole

La historia

I photographed this Epaulet Oriole (Icterus cayanensis) at Nukak Eco Lodge in Puerto Concordia, Meta, Colombia, in febrero de 2021. It is found from the southeastern half of Colombia through the Amazon and the Guianas to Bolivia and Brazil. Its taxonomy is complicated, and for much of the twentieth century some authors treated the Moriche Oriole as a separate species while others made it a subspecies of this one. Its nest is a hammock woven from plant fibers and attached to the underside of a large leaf or palm frond, and it is believed to eat mostly insects, along with fruit, nectar and sap.

I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L, at 1/125 sec, f/6.7, ISO 6400, +0,5 EV. IUCN lists the Epaulet Oriole as Least Concern.
