Masked Crimson Tanager

La historia

This Masked Crimson Tanager (Ramphocelus nigrogularis) perched in the green tangle near Puerto Nariño, in Amazonas, Colombia, its scarlet plumage and black mask set against the leaves. It is a bird of the western and central Amazon Basin, found from the Bogotá area of Colombia south and southeast to Ecuador and Peru, east of the Andes. It often lives near water, in brushy forest clearings, below about 500 meters in Colombia, and it eats arthropods and fruit. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender for this one, at 1/180 sec, f/16, ISO 1600, −1 EV. Puerto Nariño has no cars, and in 2012 it became the first town in Colombia certified for sustainable tourism.
