White-eared Jacamar

La historia

This White-eared Jacamar (Galbalcyrhynchus leucotis) perched on a branch close to the camera near Puerto Nariño, in Amazonas, Colombia, its deep chestnut plumage framing the white ear patches that give it its name. The species lives in the lowlands of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, up to about 500 meters. The few nests on record, one in Ecuador and one in Peru, were cavities in termite nests high in trees, active in April and July. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11, at 1/1500 sec, f/11, ISO 3200, −1,5 EV. Puerto Nariño has no cars, and in 2012 it became the first town in Colombia certified for sustainable tourism.
