The Story
I photographed this Brown-throated Parakeet (Eupsittula pertinax) in Taganga, near Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia, at about 65 meters. Its wings are mostly green with dull blue edges and tips on the flight feathers. Flocks call as they fly, and when a feeding flock answers, the others may join it. It is found from Costa Rica and Panama across northern South America and on nearby Caribbean islands. IUCN lists it as Least Concern. Immature birds show very little yellow.
I photographed it with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender, at 1/1000 sec, f/16, ISO 1600. Taganga is a traditional fishing village about 3 kilometers north of Santa Marta, and both were founded by Rodrigo de Bastidas in 1525.
