Brown-throated Parakeet

The Story

I photographed this Brown-throated Parakeet (Eupsittula pertinax) in Taganga, near Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia. It lives in Costa Rica, Panama, northern South America and on islands off the coast. It eats seeds, fruits, nuts, flowers and leaves, and a study in Venezuela found that up to 70 percent of its food came from human-planted rather than wild sources. Flocks call in flight, and when a feeding flock answers, the others may join it. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I photographed it with a Canon R5 and the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L, at 1/90 sec, f/6.7, ISO 6400, +0.5 EV. Taganga is a traditional fishing village about 3 kilometers north of Santa Marta, and both were founded by Rodrigo de Bastidas in 1525.
