The Story
I photographed this Brown Jacamar (Brachygalba lugubris) at Finca la Reserva de Ecoflora, near Monterrey in Casanare, Colombia. It lives in three separate areas of northern South America east of the Andes, in the canopy, along edges and in shrubby clearings, and in places along savanna watercourses. Pairs or small groups sit on exposed branches and sally out after flying insects of many kinds. Its nest has never been described, but it is assumed to be a burrow in a soil bank or termite nest. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I used a Canon R5 with the RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 for this one, at 1/20 sec, f/8, ISO 6400, −0.5 EV. Monterrey, in the foothills of the Eastern Cordillera about 105 kilometers from Yopal, was founded on September 6, 1953, and became a municipality in 1960.
