The Story
I photographed this Black-striped Sparrow (Arremonops conirostris) at the Reserva Natural El Danubio, near Morelia, Caquetá, Colombia, in February 2020. It is found from Honduras to Ecuador and Brazil. It eats insects, seeds and fruit, and has been seen taking small lizards and frogs. The female builds an oven-shaped nest of leaves, ferns and grass with a side entrance, then incubates alone for 13 to 14 days. It is fairly common in Colombia. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I made this frame with a Pentax K-1 and the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6, at 1/2000 sec, f/5.6, ISO 6400. The reserve also offers tubing down the river to Morelia, ethnic tourism with a Murui Muina guide, stingless-bee tastings and certificates for the trees visitors plant.
