Brown-throated Parakeet

The Story

I photographed this Brown-throated Parakeet (Eupsittula pertinax) in Taganga, near Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia, at about 65 meters. Its diet includes seeds, fruits, nuts, flowers, leaves and sometimes insects. Flocks call to each other in flight. Its nesting season varies across its range, which runs from Costa Rica through northern South America. Its wings are mostly green, with dull blue edges and tips on the flight feathers, and in Colombia it reaches 2,600 meters. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L, at 1/350 sec, f/6.7, ISO 3200. Taganga is a traditional fishing village about 3 kilometers north of Santa Marta, and both were founded by Rodrigo de Bastidas in 1525.
