The Story
This Southern House Wren (Troglodytes musculus) was at La Macarena, Meta, Colombia when I photographed it. It was long treated as part of the House Wren and was split from it because of deep genetic, vocal and physical differences. It is found from southern Mexico to southern Chile and Argentina. The Sierra de la Macarena is home to about 420 bird species, along with eight species of primates. It often nests in man-made structures and feeds on or near the ground, which lets it live in towns and cities.
I made this frame with a Pentax K-1 and the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6, at 1/250 sec, f/6.3, ISO 200. IUCN includes the Southern House Wren in its assessment of Troglodytes aedon, which it lists as Least Concern, with a stable population.
