The Story
I photographed this Cinnamon Hummingbird (Amazilia rutila) at Hacienda Montecristo near Santa Rosa de Copán, Honduras. It lives mainly along the Pacific side of Mexico and Central America south to Costa Rica, from sea level up to about 1,600 meters, and it stays in its range all year. It takes nectar from a very wide variety of flowering plants and also eats insects. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender, at 1/60 sec, f/16, ISO 3200, −1 EV. Hacienda Montecristo is a regular birding route for COAS Copán, the Santa Rosa de Copán club whose first outing was held there on Global Big Day in May 2017.
