The Story
This Buff-tailed Coronet (Boissonneaua flavescens) perched on a branch at La Minga Ecolodge in Dapa, near Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, in the Andean cloud forest at about 1,990 meters. Its green feathers with hints of bronze and its buff tail contrast with the muted greens and browns behind it, in soft, overcast light under the canopy. It forages mostly in the mid-story but also in the canopy. Females have more buff on the underparts and less bronze in the tail than males. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L, at 1/125 sec, f/6.7, ISO 800, +1.5 EV. La Minga sits in the cloud forest of the Kilometer 18 area, about an hour from Cali.
