Thick-billed Euphonia

La historia

I photographed this Thick-billed Euphonia (Euphonia laniirostris) at Finca Ecoturística San Javier, in the vereda Chucuní near Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia. It mostly forages in pairs or small groups and often joins mixed-species flocks. Both sexes build the nest, a globe with a side entrance made from twigs, leaves and plant fibers, usually within about 3 meters of the ground. IUCN lists it as Least Concern. The species is a year-round resident. It feeds mainly on mistletoe fruit and other small fruits.

I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 for this one, at 1/90 sec, f/11, ISO 3200, +1 EV. Finca San Javier offers guided birding as part of its work to help conserve the tropical dry forest of the Chucuní area.
