Straight-billed Woodcreeper

La historia

This Straight-billed Woodcreeper (Dendroplex picus) clung to a tree trunk in Restrepo, Meta, Colombia, just north of Villavicencio. It gleans and picks prey from bark and bark crevices, and less often probes dead wood, dead leaf clusters and termite nests. Its diet is mostly arthropods, but it also takes snails and even small lizards. It is found mostly below 600 meters, and its range covers every mainland South American country except Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender for this one, at 1/180 sec, f/16, ISO 1600. IUCN lists the Straight-billed Woodcreeper as Least Concern, and it is found from Panama and Trinidad across most of northern South America.
