La historia
This Spectacled Parrotlet (Forpus conspicillatus) perched on a branch and faced the camera at Caracolí Bird House, a rural birding lodge in the vereda Zuria outside Villavicencio, in Meta, Colombia, its white eye-ring standing out against bright green plumage. In the wild it feeds on seeds, nuts, leaves, berries and other fruits, and occasionally small insects. The female incubates the eggs while the male guards the nest and brings food to her and the chicks.
I photographed it from about 10 meters with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender, at 1/45 sec, f/16, ISO 3200. IUCN lists the Spectacled Parrotlet as Least Concern, and because it prefers open country to dense forest, its numbers are stable and may even be growing as land is cleared.
