Black-collared Hawk

La historia

This Black-collared Hawk (Busarellus nigricollis) perched in the green near Puerto Nariño, in Amazonas, Colombia, showing the pale, buff-tinged head, black throat collar and rufous body of the species. It hunts mostly fish from perches near water and also eats water bugs, snails, frogs, lizards and small mammals. It is the only member of its genus, and its nest is usually placed in a large tree, often near water. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11 plus the RF 1.4x extender, at 1/180 sec, f/16, ISO 3200, −1,5 EV. On the nearby Tarapoto lakes, a nursery for river dolphins and fish, 22 Indigenous communities agreed on fishing rules that Colombia’s fisheries authority AUNAP recognized in 2017.
