Fawn-breasted Tanager

La historia

This is a Fawn-breasted Tanager (Pipraeidea melanonota) that I photographed at the Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary near Pereira, Risaralda, Colombia on June 20, 2017. It is usually seen alone or in pairs at forest borders, in bushy pastures and in clearings with large trees. It has a sky-blue crown, a broad black mask and cinnamon underparts. The sanctuary lies between 1,750 and 2,276 meters above sea level, and about 90 percent of it is natural forest.

I photographed it with a Canon EOS 70D and the EF400mm f/5.6L USM, at 1/250 sec, f/16, ISO 400. IUCN lists the Fawn-breasted Tanager as Least Concern with a stable population, and the Otún Quimbaya sanctuary, protected by Colombia’s national parks service since 1996, shelters 307 bird species.
