La historia
This is a Rusty-margined Flycatcher (Myiozetetes cayanensis) that I photographed in La Macarena, Meta, Colombia on July 3, 2017. It feeds mostly on insects, often sallying out over water, and also eats small fruits. In Colombia it is found from sea level to about 2,000 meters. It lives in partly open country, including farmland, clearings, pastures with shrubs and forest edges, and favors places near water. In 1948 the central part of the Serranía de la Macarena became the first national reserve in Colombia.
I photographed it with a Canon EOS 70D and the EF400mm f/5.6L USM, at 1/500 sec, f/8, ISO 800. IUCN lists the Rusty-margined Flycatcher as Least Concern with a stable population, and the Sierra de la Macarena has been a national natural park since 1971, protecting 6,200 square kilometers where Amazon, Orinoco and Andean wildlife meet.
