La historia
I made this photo of an Indigo-capped Hummingbird (Saucerottia cyanifrons) at Ukuku Rural Lodge in Juntas, Tolima, Colombia. It is found in northern and central Colombia. It is most common between 1,000 and 2,000 meters, but it comes down to about 400 meters in the breeding season. The adult male has an indigo-blue crown and shining green upperparts. It catches arthropods mostly by flying out from a perch in the canopy. Its nest is a cup of moss, cobweb and lichen. Juntas is a rural district of Ibagué in the Combeima Canyon, a buffer zone of Los Nevados National Natural Park where more than 300 bird species have been recorded.
I used a Pentax K-1 with the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 for this one, at 1/160 sec, f/5.6, ISO 6400. IUCN lists the Indigo-capped Hummingbird as Least Concern, with a stable population.
