Female Purple-throated Euphonia

La historia

I photographed this female Purple-throated Euphonia (Euphonia chlorotica) at Beraca Charco Indio, near San José del Guaviare, Guaviare, Colombia, in febrero de 2021. Adult females have a mostly olive head with a grayish tinge, a yellowish forehead, and olive-yellow underparts. The species feeds mainly on the fruit of mistletoe and other small fruits such as figs, with a few insects, and it usually forages in pairs or family groups. One known nest was a globe of plant fibers and dry leaves with a side entrance. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L, at 1/500 sec, f/6.7, ISO 6400. Young people from Meta, Guaviare and Caquetá planted 50 trees on the farm’s Sendero de la Reconciliación in a symbolic act organized by Colombia’s Truth Commission.
