La historia
This Red-headed Barbet (Eubucco bourcierii) at Finca Alejandría, at Kilometer 18 near Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, at about 1,970 meters. The species has a red head on the male, set off by a white collar, an olive-green back and an orange to yellow breast. It ranges from Costa Rica to Peru, and the amount of red on the throat and chest varies among its subspecies. Clutches hold two to five eggs, and the female incubates at night while both parents share the daytime shifts. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I photographed it with a Canon R5 and the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L, at 1/180 sec, f/6.7, ISO 800. The San Antonio cloud forest at Kilometer 18 is recognized as an Important Bird Area and a Key Biodiversity Area, with the Multicolored Tanager as its symbol species.
