Golden-naped Tanager

La historia

This Golden-naped Tanager (Chalcothraupis ruficervix) at Finca Alejandría, at Kilometer 18 near Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, at about 1,960 meters. Among the mostly blue tanagers with black facial masks, it is the only one with a golden nape. Its scientific name ruficervix combines Latin words for red and nape, and its type locality is Bogotá. A 2014 genetic study moved it from Tangara to the revived genus Chalcothraupis, in which it is the type species. It lives in the Andes from Colombia to Bolivia. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.

I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 for this one, at 1/350 sec, f/11, ISO 3200, −0,5 EV. The San Antonio cloud forest at Kilometer 18 is recognized as an Important Bird Area and a Key Biodiversity Area, with the Multicolored Tanager as its symbol species.
