La historia
I photographed this Yellow-eared Parrot (Ognorhynchus icterotis) perched on a wax palm in the forests near Cajamarca, Tolima, Colombia, at about 2,600 meters, in octubre de 2020, showing its green plumage and the yellow patch around its ears. It is a fairly large, long-tailed parrot, about 42 centimeters long and 285 grams. It nests in the hollow trunks of wax palms, usually 25 to 30 meters off the ground, and its calls sound like those of geese. IUCN lists it as Vulnerable.
I used a Pentax K-1 with the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 for this one, at 1/500 sec, f/5.6, ISO 3200. In Roncesvalles, also in Tolima, WCS reports that the 81 parrots counted in 1999 have multiplied, and the town holds a Yellow-eared Parrot festival every November.
